Carefully nurtured art activities of children bring out the best potential in the little ones refining their motor skills with perception, language and social behaviour. Art is a route through which the child connects the world inside him with the outside one and brings out new meanings to the adult world.
Children art activities need to be developed in stages taking into account the mental and physical development of the child. The first step is learning-by-doing where the child is introduced to solving the problems of making things. The child uses hands and mind to explore and make a sense out of the physical world. Here the child experiments with wood, clay, paint, materials, paper and even wire. Children learn to operate both the tools and the materials. For instance they plan and build a model park or masks and dolls. Primarily in the first stage the focus is on experimenting and exploring. Slowly more advanced ideas are introduced. The basic idea in the art classrooms is to enthuse the child to be more observant, imaginative and independent.
Music is very much a form of art and it is never too early for the child to train not only his or her voice but also be familiar with various types of instruments. Gradually, given the incentive the genetic traits will bloom, as the child will learn to express thoughts through music – whether vocal or instrumental. Here local culture and the ethnic factors play an important role. The basic foundation is laid and gradually the child growing into the teen years will learn the techniques of theatre management and movie photography. The foundation is laid during childhood.
